COUNCIL GOALS
A. GOAL/OBJECTIVE: Preserve/protect the present single-family characteristics of the Town
Continue use of Zoning and Planning Board to maintain code compliance with regard to the character of new and redeveloped commercial and multi-family residential properties
seek businesses that provide those type of services that a residential community typically desires—e.g. grocery store
monitor traffic on Town streets and address flow and speed recognizing characteristics of a residential community
maintain attractiveness of beach area
maintain stricter enforcement of Town code provisions
maintain a beach not littered with trash (utilize cans on the beach area)
B. GOAL/OBJECTIVE: Address the Town’s aging infrastructure
monitor storm drain system and replace pipes as funds allow—explore funding options should they arise
monitor boardwalk and crossovers and perform needed repairs as well as seeking grant funds to maintain structures when practicable
maintain street resurfacing program
maintain traffic and street signs as well as street striping
maintain park play apparatus, pavement/walkways, restroom, and pavilions
maintain Town buildings—i.e. town hall, public works garage, fire house
C. GOAL/OBJECTIVE: Improve the appearance of the Melbourne Causeway east of the Ernest Kouwen-Hoven Bridge
look to accommodate parking in an orderly fashion lessening erosion
promote and maintain planting of trees
D. GOAL/OBJECTIVE: Explore annexation opportunities
identify area(s) to be considered for annexation
be prepared to provide a mailer/brochure outlining information that might interest a potential resident
E. GOAL/OBJECTIVE: Decrease the ponding of water in the public rights-of-way after a rainfall
increase construction of swales along Town streets
replace failing storm drain system pipes (particularly pipes under paved streets) within funding restrictions
address NPDES requirements
monitor FDOT activities to divert stormwater from the Watson Drive beach outfall structure
explore cost effective approaches to better filter stormwater
F. GOAL/OBJECTIVE: Continue efforts to improve the quality of stormwater run-off
ensure that commercial and multi-family residential development and redevelopment meet Town Code drainage requirements
strive to improve the existing run-off situation for redevelopment projects when the full force of the code requirements cannot be met
evaluate appropriateness based on cost and funding availability to improve water quality of street drainage
G. GOAL/OBJECTIVE: Continue to bid or piggy-back prior bid for securing goods and services when practicable
H. GOAL/OBJECTIVE: Strive to ensure that Council actions are consistent with the Town’s charter, code, and comprehensive plan
I. GOAL/OBJECTIVE: Maintain the historic high quality level of service within the police and fire departments
J. GOAL/OBJECTIVE: Promote activities to bring recognition to the Town without burdening the residents
hold periodic concerts in the park
provide annual Halloween festival
provide annual tree lighting ceremony in December
provide annual Easter Egg hunt
make Nance Park facilities available for art and craft shows
K. GOAL/OBJECTIVE: Maintain use of the Town newsletter and web site to share information with Town residents
list potential openings on boards/committees to seek applications for consideration
issue newsletter every other month or more frequently as appropriate
monitor web site to keep it current
