What do you have to do to become a police officer?
The Indialantic Police Department, like most police departments within Brevard County,
utilizes the facilities at Brevard Community College, Police Academy Testing, to obtain a
list of prospective police officers. You must be on this list in order to be eligible for
employment with the Indialantic Police Department. If you are on the list and wish to let
us know about your interest in our agency, send a brief letter indicating your eligibility
and your desire to be considered for any openings that we might have available. Please do
not come to the police department requesting an application as there are none available.

How do you get in the police academy?
Contact the Brevard
County Law Enforcement Academy for information on becoming a police officer and
entrance into the police academy. The police academy is located at the Melbourne campus of
Brevard Community College, located at 3865
North Wickham Road, Melbourne, Florida 32935. BCC also houses the Brevard Police Testing and
Certification Program for applicant testing and assisting out-of-state law enforcement
officers who wish to relocate to our area. The Criminal Justice Center can be reached by
telephone at (321)632-1111.
How do I apply for a position in the Communications Center?
You may obtain an application for a full or part-time dispatch position by coming to
the Indialantic Police Department main entrance and requesting one from the dispatcher.
Your application will be kept on file for one year from the date that it is submitted. You
will be contacted if a position becomes available for which you are eligible. If you move
or change phone numbers you should call to update your application.
